The Weed and the Rose

I recall a recent meme where the top half of the picture was a delicate rose asking for appropriate soil PH, while the bottom portion pictured weeds growing out of cement, exclaiming that they can grow anywhere.

Weeds do spring up everywhere, don’t they? No matter how hard we try to eradicate them, their stubborn foliage continues to push through – even cement!

Roses, however, seem quite difficult to maintain and grow. When I looked online, I found a 10-step guide on how to produce and maintain them. That’s a lot of care, attention, and work!

It made me think of how we as Christians try and try and try to do well, pray, help others, and take care of the life that God gave us, but those pesky weeds of the enemy and sin creep through. We build our defenses, yet the attacks persist. Weeds seem to grow and mature overnight, and there is no “how to” guide to grow them – they just spring up.

Knowing this, we should be vigilant in our hearts and minds. We should be diligent in the Word of God. It takes constant care to tend to the rose, but it also takes constant care to root out the weeds.

Grab your gloves, friends. We have a harvest to prepare for!
