Poetry’s Core

Poetry is more than words and rhyme.

Poetry is more than lyric and time.

Poetry is in the helping hand.

Poetry is in counting grains of sand.

It comes alive when we daily strive

To realize that this life is more than our lives.

Poetry is in the kind word of hope.

Poetry is rescuing imagination without a rope.

It takes on new meaning when we see God’s beauty

In the mountains, sky, creation, and sea.

Poetry is wrapped in trappings of gold.

Poetry is speaking the beautiful untold.

It is redefined when it is defined from above.

Poetry, after all, is love.
