In a non-fiction book I’m writing, there’s a dedicated chapter on humility. There are countless times in Scripture where humility is mentioned and set as an instruction for us. Want your circumstances to change? Humble yourself. What a closer relationship with God? Humble yourself. Quick with your temper? Humble yourself. I love this quote from St. Augustine, “If you should ask me what are the ways of God, I would tell you that the first is humility, the second is humility, and the third is humility. Not that there are no other precepts to give, but if humility does not preceed all that we do, our efforts are fruitless.” Remember this in every choice, every feeling, every battle: the first step is humility before God. Always. James 4:10. 1 Peter 5:5. Matthew 18:4. Matthew 23:12. Psalm 147:6. Proverbs 11:2.
