Lately, I’ve been anxious. In my mind there are 12 plates spinning while I’m balancing a pencil on my nose, trying not to fall off a rickety table while on my tip toes. The Bible speaks a lot about anxiety and how to ease it. It’s a common struggle among us humans. Oftentimes, the weight of anxiety is so heavy that we give up trying to combat it. One day recently, I was driving and particularly shaky in my voice and tone. My child picked up on it. I’m always amazed how the Spirit can speak through children. My child said to me, “You can steer the calmness, but God makes the calmness.” Profound. Yes, God is the Creator of all things, so why not calmness? He is the source. Steering our calmness seems impossible, but when we recall the Prince of Peace, that fact immediately brings comfort. Recognize the nature of God in your anxiety and allow the peace to wash over you. You’re cared for. You’re loved. Steer your calmness toward the One who created it. Isaiah 26:3. 1 John 1:1-5. Philippians 4:6. Isaiah 35:4. Matthew 6:25-34.
